Oklahoma Truck Parking: Official Rest Stops & Capacity

FHWA's most recent nationwide Jason's Law Truck Parking Survey counted the official National Highway System rest stops and truck parking facilities in Oklahoma. Oklahoma has 33 of them, with a combined 527 truck parking spaces. The largest concentration is along I-35, with 15 facilities and 184 spaces. This is federal infrastructure data, not private truck stop chains (Pilot, TA, Love's, etc.). Those aren't part of this survey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there really a truck parking shortage?+

Yes. It's a well-documented, long-standing problem. That is exactly why Congress required FHWA to study it under Jason's Law in the first place (MAP-21, 2012). The shortage isn't spread evenly. Some corridors and states have far more capacity relative to truck traffic than others. The facility and space counts on this page are meant to show that at a glance for this specific state.

Where does this truck parking data come from?+

It's pulled from FHWA's own Truck Stop Parking dataset, part of USDOT's National Transportation Atlas Database. It was built from the Jason's Law Truck Parking Survey. The most recent nationwide survey data was compiled in 2019. FHWA has been preparing a third survey, but no newer public dataset had replaced it as of this page's last update. That makes it the most current official federal count available. It is not real-time or current-year data, and it doesn't include private truck stop chains.

Can you legally park overnight at a rest area?+

It depends on the state and the specific facility. Some states explicitly allow overnight parking at rest areas (often with a posted time limit, commonly 8-24 hours). Others restrict or prohibit it. There's no single nationwide rule. Check posted signs at the specific facility, or your state DOT's rules. Don't assume one state's policy applies everywhere.
